POSC
Petrotechnical
Open Standards Consortium, Inc., is an international
not-for-profit membership corporation. It
is uniquely designed to unite industry people,
issues and ideas to facilitate E&P information
sharing and business process integration.
POSC provides open specifications for information
modeling, information management, and data
and application integration over the life
cycle of E&P assets.
The greatest strength of POSC is its status as a
neutral forum for collaborative learning and sharing.
This environment allows the E&P industry to focus
on business solutions rather than on data processing
problems.

PESGB The
Petroleum Exploration Society of Great Britain
was established in 1964 and is run by a
volunteer Executive Council. The Council
is elected by the members and each Council
Member is on the Council for two years.
The objective of the Society is to promote
, for the public benefit, education in the
scientific and technical aspects of petroleum
exploration. This is achieved by variety
of means.
- Monthly
lectures held both in London and Aberdeen
Conferences & Seminars - held through
out the year and cover topical issues with
in the industry.
Field trips
The first field trip was in 1965 and investigated
the prospects of the English Channel. This
was the first of over 100 field trips ran
by the
Society ranging from local evening excursions
to full international
field courses covering several days.
- Monthly
Newsletter
which contains all the up to date Society information
as well as topical articles. The Newsletter is
only available to members.
· Regional branches
The first regional branch was established
in Aberdeen in 1985 and over the following
years
the Society
has introduced other regional branches
in the North West of England, Surrey and
Ireland. These
groups
hold regular local lecture meetings and
other educational activities. The largest
of the regional
branches
is Aberdeen which has its own President
and President Elect.
- Special Interest Groups
These are groups of members who share
a particular interest. These also arrange
meetings and other
educational activities.
- External Relations
The PESGB has links with other societies and
charities in the same field. The PESGB is formally
affiliated
to the AAPG, SEG and EAGE and has a Memorandum
of Understanding with the SPE, LPS, London Geological
Society, EAGE, SEAPEX and AFES. The Society also
holds various joint activities with other Societies
and organisations.
